Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) recently initiated the tendering process for the Firdous Market Underpass project that is estimated to cost around PKR 1.09 billion — according to news sources. The tender opening process was overseen by LDA Chief Engineer Habib-ul-Haq Randhawa at the LDA Sports Complex – Johar Town.

Four companies participated in the bidding process, including the National Logistics Cell (NLC), Habib Construction Services, Maqbool Associates, and Maaksons. Maqbool Associates submitted the lowest bid at PKR 960 million, while Habib Construction Services submitted the second lowest at PKR 990 million.
The authorities had already approved the requisite funds for the project in February this year. However, following the construction incentive package announced by the government in March, the expected costs for the venture have declined.

The project is expected to be completed within a period of four months. However, according to the previous announcements made by the LDA, the Firdous Market Chowk will remain open to traffic during this time.
Reportedly, it has been estimated that more than 1 million vehicles will use the underpass after its completion.
