Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Chief Engineer Israr Saeed announced that four mega infrastructure projects in the city will be opened to traffic this month, according to news published in the leading newspaper on November 6.

As per the details, the four major construction projects in Lahore are on the verge of opening to the general public, offering a promising solution to the persistent smog problem in the city. The Chief Engineer stated that the completion of these four projects would contribute significantly to reducing smog in the city. The LDA has issued strict directives to the contractors to ensure that water is sprinkled at all the construction sites every two hours.
Moreover, these projects include an underpass at Bedian Road, flyovers at Akbar Chowk and Shahdara, and an underpass at Khalid Butt Chowk. Providing details on the projects, he mentioned that the Akbar Chowk flyover project was set to be completed in just 6 months instead of the initially projected 10 months.

In addition to the main project, the Akbar Chowk flyover also included the construction of 10 U-turns and the remodelling of Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, all accomplished without the removal of a single tree. Work on the project commenced on May 26, 2023, and the contract stipulated a completion date of March 25, 2024.
Similarly, the Shahdara flyover project was on track to finish in 7.5 months instead of the anticipated 10 months. Construction work began on April 4, 2023, with a contract deadline for completion by January 4, 2024.
The Bedian Road underpass project was progressing at an impressive pace, aiming for completion in just two and a half months instead of the originally estimated six months. Construction began on August 26, 2023, with a contractual completion date of February 26, 2024.

The Khalid Butt Chowk Underpass project was also making remarkable progress, with an expected completion time of approximately 2 months instead of the originally planned 6 months. Official construction work commenced on September 14, 2023, with the project contract specifying a final completion date of March 10, 2024.
