Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has amended the building & zoning regulations of 2019 and the LDA land use laws of 2020 to increase the right of way and enable rooftop gardening, news sources reported on February 3.

The new LDA land use laws were amended following a Lahore High Court (LHC) order to address increasing environmental issues, pollution and traffic woes in approved housing schemes. As per the sources, the following land use changes have been notified:
- The minimum right of way for daycare centres, preschools, primary, and junior schools on approved housing schemes has been increased from 30 feet to 40 feet to improve traffic management
- No object certificates (NOCs) from the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Traffic Engineering & Transport Planning Agency (TEPA), Civil Defence and the LDA must be obtained prior to issuance of a building completion certificate

- The LDA will ensure a signed car parking agreement and rooftop active gardening on at least 50% of the rooftop area with a minimum number of trees as per building and zoning regulations.
- Rooftop gardening is now made mandatory on all buildings with more than 4 storeys
