Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Wednesday (November 10) commenced work on the second phase of Khayaban-e-Firdousi remodelling, news sources reported. The contract for the PKR 82.9 million project has been awarded to a private contractor.

As per the details, the contractor will make Khayaban-e-Firdousi Road signal-free with redesigning of U-turns on Muhib Chowk, Hockey Stadium Chowk, Shadiwal Chowk and Shaukat Khanum Flyover. All these U-turns will be redesigned keeping in mind the high flow of traffic. In addition to this, modern awareness boards will also be installed along the whole route of the project. It is important to note that the redesigning and restructuring of Khayaban-e-Firdousi Road started in August with work on phase-I of the project, which included the dismantling of Allah-Hoo roundabout and construction of protected U-turns before the roundabout.

Moreover, after the completion of the project’s Phase I & II, Mahmood Chowk, Jagawar Chowk, and Shadiwal Chowk will be redesigned. The decision for the project was taken by the Director-General (DG) LDA Ahmad Aziz Tarar to ensure smooth traffic flow on one of the busiest roads in the city.
