Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar ordered the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to start work on finalising the details of city’s first electric tram project on Canal Road, according to a news story published on Monday (January 3).

CM Buzdar was briefed on the project by LDA Director General Ahmed Aziz Tarar and Chief Engineer Israr Saeed. As per the details, LDA has submitted a plan to CM Buzdars pertaining to operating an electric tram from Thokar to Jallo.

Reportedly, the tram project will have 21 smart stations constructed on the 22-kilometre long Canal Road. It will feature an 8-feet wide track on both sides of the road. Moreover, the speed of the tram will be 25 to 30 KMPH. According to the estimates, the total cost of the project is more than PKR 21 billion.
