Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has proceeded to empower its Directors Town Planning Wing by abolishing its recovery and commercialisation wings; in a bid to streamline the enforcement of its building/commercialisation rules and process the recoveries of various fees, according to a news source published on July 20.

The LDA’s Town Planning Wing has expanded its operations to oversee the matters of approval of building plans, building control, commercialisation, recovery of dues and sealing of illegal commercial use of property. This decision was taken by LDA’s newly appointed Director General (DG) Ahmed Aziz Tarrar, who stressed for the director of each wing to enforce rules within his/her jurisdiction.

To this effect, an official document has redefined powers of Director Town Planning. It stated that different functions of several directorates were overlapping and consequently affecting performance – which is why these reforms were being introduced.
Additionally, the budget target of the (Fiscal Year) FY2020-21 has also been revised upward – from PKR 2.1 billion to PKR 3.1 billion.
