Lahore: Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the departments concerned to form a new master plan and building bylaws for the city to allow the construction of 50-storey buildings, reported a news source. Khan believes that like in all major metropolises around the globe, the construction of high-rise buildings should also be allowed in Lahore.

Khan gave these directives while chairing a high-level meeting. He demanded better planning for high-rise buildings and said that if a 10-storey building can be constructed, then so can be 40 or 50-storey buildings. He directed the LDA director general and city district administration officers to seek guidance from Dubai and other cities having skyscrapers for the formation of new building bylaws for the provincial capital.
For the new master plan of the city, Khan stressed that thorough planning for car parking space, water supply and sewerage system should be started afresh. He also instructed that comprehensive planning should be carried out for the construction of high-rise buildings. He indicated that international firms could be offered new projects on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

He further said that work on new parks and beautification of Lahore City should also be started on a war footing, which could help provide better atmospheric conditions to the citizens of Lahore. He also wanted thorough planning for downtown development. He said other cities of Punjab would be similarly developed once work on Lahore has been completed.
