Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has planned to grow the first-ever dense urban forest using the Miyawaki technique in the city, a news source reported. The civic body will use the method for afforestation at a park near Liberty Market.

Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki pioneered this technique. This method helps in the establishment of dense and native forests. The particular approach of planting trees ensures that the plant growth is 10 times faster and the resultant green cover is 30 times denser.
According to sources, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) will also support the project, and will help in the reduction of environmental pollution. LDA plans to build the forest on an area of one acre initially. The authority will plant 40-feet tall trees across this area.

The said project will be self-reliant. This means that the forest will not require water and fertiliser.
