Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has floated three design ideas for the rehabilitation of Babu Sabu Interchange to Band Road, news sources reported on October 3.

The development authority suggested the idea under the ‘Rehabilitation of Band Road from Babu Sabu Interchange to Ring Road along with Improvement at Gulshan-i-Ravi T-Junction’ project. Under the project, the authority will develop a multi-lane carriageway and flyovers to connect the city’s two busiest entry and exit points.
Design 1:
- There will six-lane dual carriageway from Babu Sabu Interchange to Ring Road
- There will be a three-lane underpass having 5.1-meter height clearance for the traffic (bound for Babu Sabu Interchange)
- PKR 4.959 billion will be spent on the acquisition of the 10.5-kanal land area required for the project
Design 2:
- A six-lane dual carriageway from Babu Sabu Interchange to Ring Road with the provision of two protected U-turns
- The project would cost PKR 4.104 billion, including over PKR 2.079 billion for construction and the rest for acquiring the land measuring 40 kanals.
- The project will be a signal-free corridor on Band Road connecting Babu Sabu Interchange with protected U-turns

Design 3:
- A six-lane dual carriageway from Babu Sabu to Band Road with flyovers
- There will be a three-lane flyover for the Babu Sabu Interchange-bound traffic
In this regard, the LDA Executive Board will take the final decision on the project in the upcoming meeting. This will also involve inputs from the Planning and Development (P&D) Board.

As per the LDA, steps have been taken to reduce traffic jams and promote low carbon emissions with signal-free and smooth traffic flow.
