Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) launched a large-scale operation against illegal commercial buildings and commercial fee defaulters on Wednesday, partially demolishing over 50 properties and sealing 75 illegal commercial units across the city.
LDA teams carried out operations in Pine Avenue, Defence Road, Jubilee Town, and Eden Lane Villas, where they removed illegal temporary structures, signboards, and sheds. Several unauthorized constructions were also demolished in LDA Avenue One’s C Block, particularly illegal commercial workshops and other structures.

The crackdown extended to major commercial hubs, where 25 properties in Gulberg and Faisal Town and 26 illegal commercial units near UBD Canal were sealed. Additionally, LDA sealed 24 properties in Allama Iqbal Town, which included private schools, clinics, pharmacies, bakeries, cash-and-carry stores, restaurants, workshops, and offices.
The operation was overseen by Chief Town Planners Asad-uz-Zaman and Azhar Ali, under the directives of LDA Director General (DG) Tahir Farooq. DG LDA later inspected G-1 Market and Khayaban-e-Jinnah, Johar Town, reviewing the ongoing anti-encroachment operations and monitoring development work in commercial zones. He directed officials to ensure that setback areas—often misused by businesses and leading to traffic congestion—are kept clear.

In G-1 Market, Johar Town, LDA is actively remodeling the commercial zone, including developing a parking area, installing tough tiles, and standardizing commercial facades and signage to permanently eliminate encroachments. DG LDA instructed teams to expedite the development work to improve the area’s commercial appeal and traffic flow.
The LDA has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against illegal commercial structures and fee defaulters, warning that further strict action will be taken against violators in the coming weeks.
