Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has approved the conversion of 450 kanal of agricultural land on Bedian Road to industrial land for a Chinese company looking to establish an industrial unit there, news sources reported on December 27. The special provision was made during LDA governing body meeting to approve the PKR 25 billion project in accordance with Rule 13 of the LDA Land Use Rules-2020.

Reportedly, the decision was made on an application submitted in May by a Chinese corporate to grant land for the construction of an industrial unit in Mauza Pandoki, Model Town Tehsil, Lahore. The decision to grant the land for the industry was taken after deliberation over the use of land for non-hazardous industry and issuance of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Environment Protection Department (EPD). Similarly, the planned project was scrutinized by the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) in terms of investment. Following the clearance from the relevant authorities, the plan was presented to the LDA governing body for final approval.

It is important to note that the approval was given under the LDA 2020 Land-Use Rules which allow the conversion of agricultural land to industrial land if the proposed project is worth a minimum of PKR 5 billion to 6 billion and the land demanded for the purpose is at least 160 kanal.
