Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has modified the design of the Shahkam Chowk flyover in order to save PKR 1 billion by repurposing land, news sources reported. The development authority has requested that the government invoke Section 6 to conserve 6.26 kanals of land.

Presently, LDA is building the said flyover, however, purchasing land to complete the project would cost an extra PKR 1 billion for land acquisition. To reduce the costs and conserve the land, the authority has altered the design and is now using less space for the building of U-turns, bus bays, and disposal stations.
Furthermore, LDA has instructed NESPAK to conduct a design overhaul for the Defence Road extension to save additional costs on the project.

Previously, the Shahkam Chowk groundbreaking was performed in July to facilitate the traffic flow on Canal Road and reduce commuting times between Bahria Town, Jubilee Town, and Defense Road. The National Logistics Company (NLC) is completing the project at a cost of PKR 2.5 billion.
