Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has amended the building bylaws to promote rooftop gardening in the city, according to news published in leading newspapers on March 22.

Lahore Commissioner and LDA Director General Mohammad Ali Randhawa shared this information during the Judicial Commission meeting on held to discuss water and environment mattes. During the meeting, the LDA director general share details on the measures being taken for environmental protection in the city. He mentioned that concrete steps are being taken to promote rooftop gardening under corporate social responsibility.
He further said that the authority will ensure that measures are taken for reducing environmental pollution and that court orders are fully implemented. A timeline will be shared with all the departments to implement the court orders, he added.

During the meeting, it was also mentioned that operations will be conducted to eliminate encroachment from green belts. For this, LDA, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), and Traffic Police will work together.
