LAHORE: The governing body of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has provided its approval to the changes proposed in the LDA City road design, a news source reported. The civic agency further sanctioned the release of funds for the construction of an underpass at the Firdous market intersection in Gulberg.

To this effect, the authorities concerned have already approved PKR 1.76 billion for the construction of the Firdous Market Underpass. This 540-metre-long dual carriageway underpass and is expected to ease traffic congestion at the intersection and ensure smooth vehicular movement from Centre Point to Cavalry Ground, MM Alam Road, and Firdous Market.
Moreover, the meeting of the governing body was briefed that the total cost of the project included the prices of a seven-kanal private land yet to be acquired by the LDA. However, the project will not affect any major structure at the intersection.
LDA Vice Chairman S M Imran presided over the session. LDA Director General Sumair Ahmad Syed, along with other senior officials, attended the meeting.
Additionally, the governing body provided its approval to abolish the allowance in a bid to lower development charges – to be paid by LDA City plot file holders.
