Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has amended clause 2.6.1 of the LDA Building and Zoning Regulations to permit the construction of pillars in buildings taller than 2- storeys and plots measuring at least 10 marla or more.
According to a news source, an LDA spokesman issued a statement on May 25 that such construction was previously only allowed in apartment buildings. Precautionary measures must be taken to ensure that this permission is implemented properly and not misused, he added.
In the past, the LDA enforced restrictions on the construction of pillars to avoid the conversion of residential buildings into commercial ones. However, the frequency of seismic activities has now made it necessary to amend this rule and provide high-rise residential buildings structural stability to withstand earthquakes.
