Lahore: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) recently called on the government to allow industries to operate 24/7 under strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) implementation to help them get back on track — with the move also expected to facilitate the recovery of the national economy and reduce unemployment, a news source reported.

LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh on Tuesday also reiterated the need to capitalise on the export opportunities presented by the impact of the coronavirus on the global economy. He further called for a need to diversify Pakistan’s export market, since the majority of local exports go to just 10 countries.
The LCCI president said that the country needed to increase its industrial production and that if allowed, the industries would take all possible steps to ensure that the SOPs and precautionary measures announced by the government were strictly being adhered to.

He added that it is primarily the industrial sector that can help the country’s economy overcome the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, he felt that the government should fully back the LCCI’s recommendations.
