Multan: The Punjab government has decided to turn Gishkori Nashaib – a village located on the left bank of the River Indus in Layyah district – into a model village, at the cost of PKR 160 million, according to news published on Tuesday (November 23).

Layyah Deputy Commissioner (DC) Azfar Zia, while addressing at the inauguration ceremony of the model village, disclosed that several development schemes involving roads, community hospital, electricity, and other facilities will be provided under the provincial chief minister’s District Development Programme.
As per the details, the village – which is encircled by a river offshore – will also get a bridge. The district management has submitted a request to the Punjab Planning and Development Department for the purpose.
Furthermore, the deputy commissioner stated that the locals have to travel more than one hundred kilometres every day to reach the other side of the river, which costs them a lot in terms of money and time.

Moreover, DC Zia disclosed that PRK 160 million have been promised for the uplift package of the village. It was also reported that over 10,000 people will get access to health and clean potable water facility, under the planned development initiative.
