Karachi: Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem on Wednesday hinted at an administrative takeover of Karachi by the federal government in a bid to manage the administrative affairs of the metropolis, a news source reported.

As per reports, the minister is expected to present his suggestions to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan during a meeting of the Karachi Strategic Committee (KSC) scheduled for September 14 (Saturday).
Previous media reports had suggested that the centre’s intended to invoke Article 149 (4) of the constitution; which empowers the federation to give directives to any of its provincial governments in a manner that prevents grave menace to tranquility, peace or economic of people.

Naseem clarified that the imposition of Article 149 (4) does not suggest governor rule or any emergency situation. Instead, it allows the federal government to exercise an executive authority under which it can give directives to any provincial government.

As per sources, the said proposal has been floated in order to address the city’s worsening garbage and sewerage situation.
