Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided that the names of those who will not file their income tax after the deadline expires in September will not be included in the list of active taxpayers, reported a news source. For the next whole year, the late filers will not be able to enjoy the perks extended to tax filers.
The prime reason behind following this strategy is to discourage taxpayers from filing their tax returns late. The board has decided to disallow the late tax filers from availing the benefits extended to those who file their returns on time as a penalty.
According to an FBR official, the board has removed Income Tax Ordinance section 214-D which is about conducting audit of the late tax filers. The amended ordinance was applicable from July 1, 2018 onwards. The said official believes that not picking late filers of income tax returns for audit is a huge relief, but it comes with the repercussion of not being able to enjoy the benefits meant for active taxpayers.
