Mansehra: A massive landslide blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in Upper Kohistan on Monday, bringing traffic to a halt as heavy snowfall and rainfall lashed the upper Hazara division.
According to Deputy Commissioner Upper Kohistan Tariq Ali Khan, the landslide, triggered by a cracked mountain section, has cut off traffic between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. The ongoing rain has made clearance efforts difficult, forcing authorities to temporarily halt the operation due to safety concerns.

“We deployed heavy machinery to clear the debris near the Bypass area, but continuous rainfall poses risks for laborers and machine operators,” said the deputy commissioner, adding that the highway would be reopened once the weather stabilizes.
Meanwhile, motorists and passengers remain stranded on both sides of the blockage, with long queues of vehicles stretching along the highway.
The upper Hazara region, including Mansehra, Torghar, and Kohistan districts, has been experiencing heavy downpours and snowfall since the start of Ramazan. In Kaghan Valley and Shogran, police have restricted vehicle movement due to slippery roads, allowing only four-wheelers and local residents to proceed under strict safety protocols.
