Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government decided to establish District Land-Use Planning and Management Committee for all districts to facilitate, coordinate, and supervise the conduct of surveys for master and strategic planning, and land use and their zoning, according to news published today (November 22).

As per the details, the committees will include Deputy Commissioner (DC) as convener, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Planning), Chairman or Mayor of the Concerned Tehsil Council, heads of the district level offices of the agriculture, environment, provincial housing authority, public health engineering, irrigation, sports, culture tourism, transport, and communication & works departments, Assistant Commissioner of the concerned tehsil, Tehsil Municipal Officer of the concerned tehsil municipal administration, and Tehsil Municipal head of the Urban Areas Development Authority.
Reportedly, the convener can appoint any co-opted member who has experience in environment, transportation, architecture, heritage, structural engineering, urban planning, or any related field. The selected co-opted member will work as a volunteer. Sharing more details, the meetings will be held on a monthly basis and the quorum of the meeting must be two-thirds of the members. The committee will be established under KP Land-Use and Building Control Act 2021.
Moreover, the committee will work together with the concerned local government to formulate and implement the district land-use plan or master plan along with sending recommendations to the provincial Land-Use and Building Control Authority and seeking approval on every case. Also, the committee will conduct a monthly review of NOC’s issued by the concerned agencies and can take action to undo a violation that includes reconstruction or demolition of a building.

As per the details, the committee will survey the infrastructure and land use in the districts. After the results, the areas will be categorised into industrial, commercial, residential, range land, forest national, mining area, recreational area, barren & vacant land, water bodies, agricultural land, area prone to natural hazard, a mixed land-use area, and other land types.
