Gilgit: The Gilgit Baltistan (GB) government has decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Punjab government for the training and infrastructure needed for a digitised land record management system, news sources reported on November 15.

The Punjab government will offer technical advice, training, and infrastructure development for the digitalisation of land records in Gilgit Baltistan’s ten districts. The decision was reached at a meeting presided over by GB Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani. In addition, the meeting voted to use the e-procurement system for government tenders and project management. According to reports, the meeting also decided to put the following decisions into action:
- GB Board of Revenue has drafted the Land Reforms Act which shall be presented in seminars all across GB for discussions and consensus-building
- The draft will be presented before the public and a consensus draft agreement will be prepared and presented before the legislative cabinet for formal approval
- The GB government will settle the unsettled and disputed properties through land reforms
- Land records of all districts including lands developed by the ETI project shall be digitised through a specialised team

It was also said that, in order to achieve self-reliance in the procurement process, the GB government would launch its own E-procurement system in the first month of next year, which will be operationally independent of the federal government.
