Lahore: Under the Land Acquisition Act-1894, the government has imposed Section 5 in addition to notifying several chunks of land needed to be acquired on a priority basis for the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project ‘within revenue limits of Lahore city district’, according to a news report published on January 10.

The land notified by the government encompasses 2,562 kanals and is located in seven mauzas. As per the said notification – signed by the Lahore commissioner, additional deputy commissioner (revenue), district collector, Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) chairman and RUDA land acquisition collectors-1 and 2 – the land identified include 117 kanals and eight marlas in Mauza Harnaralnpura, seven kanals and 11 marlas in Jia Musa, 300 kanals and 13 marlas in Bhamma, 300 kanals in Targarh, 37 kanals and 17 marlas in Shahdara, 1,226 kanals in Hardo Jabo, and 573 kanals and 3 marlas in Karolwar.

Moreover, the commissioner has expressed his satisfaction with the land identified and invited written objections within 30 days of the publication of this notice. The authorities concerned have also invited the general public to view the land acquisition plan displayed in the offices of the collector in the Lahore division as well as the RUDA chairman.
The notice clarifies that land upon which ‘any religious place or worship, shrine, graveyard or any immovable property attached to any institution and the boundaries of which are contiguous with the site of the same be excluded from the plan’.
