Rawalpindi: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has handed over the possession of a 508-kanal chunk of land, identified in Dhok Munshi in Chaklala, to the Naya Pakistan Housing Authority (NPHA) in an effort to facilitate the development of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) in Rawalpindi – a news source reported.

Previously, Punjab Parliamentary Secretary Revenue Adnan Chaudhry had, along with several revenue officials, had identified this land situated between the jurisdictions of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Following the land identification, a high-level demarcation committee was tasked with the boundary identification gig.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan is expected to inaugurate the NPHP Rawalpindi project in October – with the construction process scheduled to commence in the same month. As per officials, the development work on the provision of affordable homes in the city is underway.
Previously, PM Imran had directed Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar to reclaim the state land from encroachers in the Rawalpindi division. He had instructed the commissioner to submit a report within a month’s time following the demarcation process completion.
He had ordered the commissioner and the secretary revenue to utilise the state land for setting up public welfare projects. He also stressed on the need to treat widows and the poor fairly during the recovery operation.

Moreover, has had issued orders to take strict actions against individuals involved in illegal transactions, which concerned public properties. In response, the secretary revenue stated that they had partially completed a survey on this front. He added that they had identified encroached land worth PKR 10 billion so far. He stated that they would take serious measures to retrieve this land soon.
Chaudhry stated that the authorities concerned had already recovered about 7,000 kanals of land situated on Chakri Road and 1,000-kanal land in Koth Kalan from illegal occupants. He added that the departments concerned planned to launch a massive anti-encroachment next month.
