Rawalpindi: The Government of Punjab has issued funds worth PKR 200 million for acquiring land for the upgradation and expansion work of the Chahan Dam, a news source reported.

Reportedly, the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) Rawalpindi has directed the project consultant to timely begin the developmental work so as to increase the water storage capacity of the dam built 5 years ago. Sources within the Punjab government revealed that PKR 200 million have been issued in the first phase, while another PKR 200 million are to be released in the start of fiscal year FY 2020-21.

The upgradation of Chahan Dam is estimated to cost a total sum of PKR 5.4 billion. WASA has also appointed a project consultant to undertake this project of immense importance for Rawalpindi – a city that already struggles with meeting its water requirements.
The Chahan Dam’s upgradation is being monitored by WASA and it supplies water to the six union councils (UCs) of the city, including Chakra, Chak Jalal Din, Lakhan, Dhamial and Kulial.
