Peshawar: The department for Water and Sanitation Service Peshawar (WSSP) has acquired land measuring 600 kanals to set up a solid waste disposal site, reported a news source. The information was revealed by WSSP Chief Executive Khan Zaib before a two-member bench comprising Justice Qaiser Arshad and Justice Arshad Ali of Peshawar High Court.
The bench was hearing a case filed by Peshawar Bar Association’s ex-general secretary. The court was told that thousands of tons of solid waste is collected from Peshawar on a daily basis, for which there is no proper disposal site. The waste is instead thrown in Hazar Khwani, causing pollution and serious hygiene issues in the area.
The bench ordered the implementation of a plan to set up the disposal site on an urgent basis and adjourned the case till April 25.
