Lahore: The Punjab government has established the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR) to restore and preserve the city’s historic sites. The initiative aims to protect Lahore’s architectural heritage and remove encroachments from significant landmarks.

The decision was made in a meeting chaired by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. During the session, officials identified key heritage sites for restoration, including Lahore Fort, Jahangir and Noor Jahan’s tombs, Shalimar Gardens, and Kamran’s Baradari. Proposals were also reviewed for restoring the original structure of Neela Gumbad.
To address parking congestion near historic sites, authorities have identified five locations for underground parking facilities. Additionally, CM Maryam Nawaz directed the removal of encroachments around Circular Road and Lahore’s historic gates.

Nawaz Sharif, who has been appointed patron-in-chief of LAHR’s steering committee, stressed the importance of preserving Lahore’s historical identity, citing European cities as examples of well-maintained heritage. He also emphasized compensating businesses affected by anti-encroachment efforts.
The initiative marks a significant step in safeguarding Lahore’s cultural legacy and ensuring its historic sites remain intact for future generations.
