The Punjab Transport Department has announced that Lahore will soon witness the launch of its first fleet of electric buses, set to operate on two key routes in the city. Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi confirmed that 27 eco-friendly electric buses arrived at Karachi Port on January 15, six days ahead of schedule.
These state-of-the-art buses, imported from China, will reach Lahore on January 21. Following an unveiling ceremony, the buses are scheduled to begin operations on January 31.

In the first phase, the electric buses will serve two identified routes:
Canal Road to RA Bazaar
Railway Station to RA Bazaar
Dr. Qazi stated that these environment-friendly buses are a major step toward sustainable urban transport. Each bus, costing Rs. 88 million, has a lifespan of 12 years. The total project, valued at Rs. 2.46 billion, aims to provide cleaner and more efficient public transport options for Lahore’s residents.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the receipt of the buses at Karachi Port this week. Dr. Qazi highlighted that preparations are underway to ensure the smooth rollout of the buses on Lahore’s roads.
