Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Ahmed Aziz Tarar has directed the developers of all private housing schemes falling under its jurisdiction to ensure the provision of clean water for their residents, a news source reported. This measure is intended to help contain COVID-19 pandemic and a number of water-borne diseases.

For this purpose, the LDA has recommended society managements to install dosing pumps on all tube wells to add the prescribed amount of chlorine to disinfect the water (to be done ‘first thing’ when the tube wells are switched on in the morning). Furthermore, the societies – including those featuring overhead water tanks – have also been instructed to monitor their tube wells 24/7 to ensure proper chlorination.

Reportedly, the LDA staff will periodically inspect these societies to check if the proper mechanisms are in place for cleaning their water-supply drums – and to guard against any leakages.
The LDA has warned of initiating legal action against developers found disregarding its measures prescribed to control the viral spread.
