Lahore: European Agency Country Director Philippe Steinmetz on Wednesday (November 17) stated that work on Lahore’s first wastewater treatment plant – Babu Sabu Water Treatment Plant – will start by January 2023, according to media reports.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) held a meeting to review progress work of the treatment plant. The meeting was chaired by agency’s (Lahore) Managing Director (MD) Syed Zahid Aziz. During the meeting, the WASA MD ordered the concerned officials to resolve technical issues pertaining to the wastewater treatment plan on a priority basis.
Reportedly, the PKR 60 billion project will be completed in phases. The MD shared that the European Agency will provide financial and technical support for the project management unit.

The European Agency will provide funding for the wastewater treatment plant. Under this initiative, the city’s sewerage water will be treated and discharged into River Ravi. The project aims to decrease pollution in River Ravi’s water and address related environmental problems.
