Lahore: The first surface water treatment plant of the provincial capital has been given final approval by the federal government’s Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) – a news source reported.

The project will receive USD 14 billion from the Asian Infrastructure Development Bank, which will be given to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) for its execution. All the other steps, including design and PC-1’s approval, have already been taken for this endeavour.

The project has also been formally approved by the Punjab and federal governments. It was approved in four phases: in the first phase it was approved by the Planning & Development Department, then it was approved by the Central and Provincial Development Working Parties (CDWP and PDWP), and now it has also been approved by the ECNEC.
The water treatment plant will be established at Bhaini. According to Managing Director WASA Zahid Aziz, the water from the plant could also be supplied to citizens at their homes.
