Islamabad: The under-development Sialkot-Lahore motorway is all set to become fully operational within a few months, according to a news source. As per the publication, the road facility will connect Lahore and Sialkot via the eastern parts of the province — reducing the travelling time between the two cities to a mere 41 minutes.
Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood inaugurated the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway Eastern Bypass Section on Feb 8. Reportedly, the cost of the 16.58km long bypass amounted to Rs11 billion and it composes of six lanes, nine bridges and eight underpasses. In addition, the developmental work required for the project was completed by the National Highways Authority (NHA).

In January, it was announced that the first section of the Sialkot-Lahore motorway had been inaugurated for public traffic. The operative section of 22 kilometers runs between Kala Shah Kaku and Muridke-Narowal Road, while the remaining part of the 69km motorway will be finished in the next few months.
The FWO has been assigned the construction of the 91km long motorway, which is expected to curtail traffic on GT Road and M2.

The motorway comprises of four lanes, nine interchanges, 20 bridges, eight flyovers, and 18 underpasses. In addition, three industrial zones and two universities have also been planned to be constructed along the motorway route.
