Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General (DG) Sumair Ahmed Syed recently announced the provincial government’s decision to allocate a revised budget of PKR 750 million for the preparation of the city’s new master plan, a news source reported.

The LDA DG revealed this information while chairing a meeting of the Consultant Selection Committee. He further stated that the authority would hire a consultant for the plan, as per the rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) and guidelines of the Planning & Development (P&D) department.
Syed added that as per the regional planning department, LDA would prepare the master plan for all urban and rural areas falling within the limits of the Lahore region. He further revealed that during the preparation of the master plan, the officials concerned would ensure the following:
- Environmental protection
- Smart use of resources
- Promotion of socio-economic activities
- Inclusion of all sections of the society
- Conservation of historical sites

Previously, the LDA had decided to prepare a master plan that was applicable till the year 2040 and lasted only 20 years. However, the development authority has now decided to formulate a plan for 30 years in total, extending its reach to the year 2050 i.e. the Lahore Master Plan 2050. This will allow the authority to effectively meet the business, industrial, and residential needs of the city for years to come.
