Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Saturday (September 21) announced that the authority had shortlisted three firms for the preparation of the city’s Master Plan 2050 — with the Singapore-based company Mine Heart, Lebanon-based firm Dar Al-Hindsa, and the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) having been selected for the purpose, a news source reported. The authority will make its final decision based on the respective technical and financial proposals submitted by the said companies.

As per the LDA, the last date for the submission of the aforementioned proposals is October 19. Earlier in August, the authority had revealed that it had received seven applications in response to its Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the preparation of the Lahore Master Plan 2050. The companies that had expressed an interest in the bidding process included the Country Developers, Shahar Saaz Pvt Ltd, Pluto Planning, and Euro Consultant, along with the above-mentioned three firms.

According to sources, after the LDA’s jurisdiction was expanded to cover the entire Lahore Division via an amendment made in the LDA Act 1975 in 2013, the authority is now responsible for the city’s master planning, matters related to land use and its conversion, and for the issuance of approvals to private housing schemes located in the entire division i.e. Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura and Lahore.

Reportedly, the authority is aiming to turn Lahore into a prosperous city through master planning. According to LDA Director General Ahmed Aziz Tarar, the new plan will be prepared for all urban and rural areas that are part of the Lahore Division. In addition, the master plan will include measures to protect the environment, ensure the efficient use of resources, preserve the city’s historical heritage, and promote economic activities by including all sections of the population.
