Lahore: Lahore Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and Mardan Water and Sanitation Company (MWSC) have been selected to implement a new policy aimed to maintain groundwater reservoirs by stopping their wastage, news sources reported.

The said policy Water Operators’ Partnership (WOP) will be implemented in collaboration with Hungary`s Budapest Waterworks (BWW) and the European Union (EU). The agencies would implement the WOP to preserve and manage water resources in their respective areas under the plan agreed and authorised by the EU. The BWW will assist agencies in implementing NRW (non-revenue water) levels policies, which will aid in the conservation of underground water resources by preventing unnecessary usage and wasting. The BWW is believed to be a leader in water resource management and will assist the agency in addressing some of its pressing challenges.

At the moment, the WASA is stated to be solely responsible for delivering and distributing water supplies to the city via outdated water and sewage infrastructure. With assistance from BWW, the agency seeks to overcome operational, infrastructure, revenue, and training challenges, as well as increase water conservation capability.
