Lahore: A Smog Clean Tower, developed by the Punjab Environmental Protection Department (PEPD) in collaboration with the Space of NUST, is being installed at Mahmood Booti, a high-pollution area. The development was revealed through a source on December 13.

According to the details, the installation and calibration of the tower are in progress and it is expected to be fully operational by December 21. The Tower is designed to purify the air by removing toxic particles, significantly reducing air pollution in Lahore.
Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb hailed the initiative as a revolutionary step in environmental protection, emphasizing the role of modern technology in addressing challenges like smog. She noted that the tower will serve as a model for other cities across the country. The government is also taking stringent measures to combat pollution. Large-scale operations have been launched against illegal and polluting sources. In Bhakkar, six non-zigzag kilns were demolished, while one kiln each in Gujrat, Khanewal, and Multan was dismantled.

In Lahore, six industrial units, including steel re-rolling mills and steel furnaces, were sealed. Across Punjab, 10 industrial units, including stone crushers and textile mills, were shut down, with a total of 16 units facing action.
