Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Monday (December 26) announced the launch of an environment-friendly hybrid bus service for Lahore, news sources reported.

The announcement was made at the 21st annual meeting of the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA). Speaking on the occasion, CM Elahi said that the new hybrid buses will reduce environmental pollution and smog while providing passengers with an affordable and quality transportation system. He added that each hybrid bus will have separate seats for women, blind, and differently-abled commuters near the bus entrance to make it inclusive for people from all walks of life. The CM also ordered expediting the procurement process and setting a timeline for the implementation of the decisions.

It is important to note that the Punjab government has recently initiated a pilot run of Lahore’s first-ever electric bus with zero smoke emission. This e-bus has been operating on Lahore’s roads every day, making two trips, from Punjab Transport Company’s (PTC) main station to Valencia Town.
