Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar said that the government has decided to divide Lahore into 32 administrator regions in a bid to better address the persisting management issues, news sources reported. The decision was announced during his concluding budget speech for the fiscal year (FY 2021-22) in the provincial legislature.

The CM said that the decision is taken in view of the burgeoning population of the provincial capital and to streamline processes and administration. A final decision will be taken soon in this regard.
Moreover, the CM also announced various development projects for the province including a package for South Punjab. Some of the details of the speech are as follows:
• The South Punjab Secretariat will be established soon in Multan, and one in Bahawalpur
• A 32 % quota is suggested in government jobs for South Punjab, while the decision to include Bhakkar and Minawali in the quota, which would raise the overall share to 35%, is under consideration.

• The government has authorised the construction of houses in 147 tehsils of the province under the Peri-urban Housing Scheme, and 10,000 houses are now under construction and will be completed by the end of the year.
• 500 sports grounds will be constructed under Punjab’s first sports policy
• Approval of PKR 360 billion worth district development project that will be executed in this new fiscal year.
