Lahore: In the wake of increasing smog levels reported in the city, Lahore Commissioner Asif Bilal Lodhi has proposed a measure to combat the issue, a news source reported. Lodhi stated that he has sent a proposal for using artificial rain to get rid of the smog in Lahore to the Finance Department Punjab.

The commissioner said that upon the receiving the proposal, the Finance Department would forward it to Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar. Lodhi explained that his proposal includes the use of a ‘cloud-seeding’ technique to create artificial rains. He added that the departments concerned could activate these process via a rocket launcher or ship.
The commissioner said that the process would cost about PKR 300 million. He expressed his hope that the government would approve the proposal so he can move forward with the testing of the technology.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International has issued a warning pertaining to smog levels in Punjab. The organisation has urged Pakistan to take urgent action in order to resolve the issue. Several Amnesty officials revealed that Punjab’s air quality was toxic – leading people’s health and lives into grave danger. They added that schools were being forced to shut down, respiratory illnesses were rising in number and people were experiencing breathing problems.
