Lahore: The Lahore Bridge expansion project, located at the Qainchi intersection, Ferozpur Road, is 75% complete and will open for traffic in September, news sources reported on August 9. The PKR 1.711 billion project is a part of the Gulab Devi underpass.

Reportedly, the bridge’s construction was pushed back due to the delay in releasing the No-Objection certificate (NOC) from Pakistan Railways (PR). Due to the NOC delay, work on the piling and girder launching while crossing the railway lines at the junction was halted. According to Project Concept-1 (PC-1), LDA is required to build a two-lane flyover in addition to the existing flyover to accommodate increasing traffic. The completion of the flyover would improve traffic flow from Kalma Chowk to Gujjumata and Kasur. Moreover, the project manager told the reporters that work would restart soon after the Sui gas and electricity lines are relocated away from the construction site.

It is worth noting that the LDA initiated four major development projects in the city: the Sheranwala Gate flyover, the Shahkam flyover project, the Gulab Devi Underpass project, and the Lahore Bridge project. The other three projects have all been completed, except for the Lahore Bridge project, which has been stalled.
