Karachi: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has requested PKR 12 billion from the Sindh government for a project to construct a new canal from Hub Dam and rehabilitate the existing one, as reported on May 30.

According to the details, the KWSC board approved the plan, with the provincial government expected to release PKR 700 million for the current fiscal year, pending Sindh cabinet approval. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, chair of the KWSC board, has requested government funding for the canal’s rehabilitation, proposing a total allocation of PKR 12.72 billion over two fiscal years. The Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah has approved the project, and KWSC will present the proposal at the next cabinet meeting.

Wah Construction Limited, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Defence Production, proposed a plan costing PKR 9.8 billion for a new canal and PKR 2.92 billion for rehabilitating the existing one, which the KWSC board approved. The proposal will now be presented to the cabinet for final approval.
