Karachi: Karachi Water and Sanitation Board (KWSB) has decided to launch a crackdown against defaulters of water bills, reported a news source. The board has started to issue notices to the defaulters.

Sources within KWSB have revealed that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will take important decisions regarding the operation on March 5. The planned crackdown will help KWSB increase its recovery amount from the defaulters.
KWSB has over 1.175 million consumers in Karachi, which includes 1.16 million domestic consumers and 9,458 commercial consumers. KWSB officials stated that the board recovers PKR 230 million from its domestic consumers, and PKR 450 million from commercial consumers.

The board also stated that issuance of new connections has been banned since the last two years.
According to KWSB Billing Director Mohsin Qaimkhani, the board has identified 344,051 illegal connections in the city. The count has lately increased at an alarming rate. The board is looking to recover PKR 700 million from its defaulters.
