Karachi: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to add the names of late-filers into the Active Taxpayers List (ATL), a news source reported. The recommendation was made in a letter to the FBR Chairman.
The KTBA letter urged the FBR Chairman to issue instructions to include names of taxpayers who had applied for an extension in their tax-filing date – and which was not rejected by the Inland Revenue commissioner.

The letter recommend that FBR should also include the taxpayers who got registered with board after June 2018. These people are entitled to be included in ATL as per SRO 831(I)/2015 issued on August 21, 2015.
The late filers are not entitled to have their names in ATL under the amendment to Section 182 A introduced under Finance Act, 2018.
The KTBA noted that the taxpayers, who had applied for a time extension for filing their returns, and had filed by the requested due date, did not appear in the ATL issued by the FBR on March 1, 2019.
The tax bar maintained that the inclusion of such taxpayers in ATL will facilitate compliance.
