Lahore: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has pledged a sum of USD 1 million for Pakistanis who have been rendered unemployed due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, a news source reported. The package was announced by Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Bin Saeed Al Maliki on behalf of the King Salman Aid and Belief Centre.

In addition, the ambassador handed over 20,000 ration bags to Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar during an event that was also attended by representatives of the Hayat Foundation. Reportedly the rations will be disbursed among deserving families in various cities of Punjab, including Lahore.

Governor Punjab appreciated the representatives of KSA and the Hayat Foundation, and mentioned that more than 12 million Pakistanis had been rendered unemployed by the lockdown implemented in the wake of the COVID-19 spread. He further revealed the Punjab Development Work’s plan to provide a ration bag to 500,000 families at their doorsteps during the month of Ramzan.

Lastly, KSA Ambassador Al Maliki also spoke on the occasion and took the opportunity to reiterate his country’s commitment in helping Pakistan in this moment of crisis.
