Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (KPRA) registered a record 75% increase in tax collection between February 2019 and February 2020, a news source reported.

KP Finance and Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra shared the information on Twitter. He posted documents that compare KPRA’s Year-to-Date (YTD) tax collection to the total tax collection in 2019. The information underlines that the YTD tax collection stands at PKR 10.8 billion and total tax collection last year was PKR 10.4 billion. This data shows a rise of 75% annual growth in the collection – not ever seen before.

The finance minister’s tweet revealed that February 2020 was the second-best month in KPRA’s history – in terms of service tax collection. The data recorded showed a growth of 110% in this month. On the other hand, December 2019 took the first spot with a total collection of PKR 2.66 billion – an increase of 259%. Jhagra told media persons that KPRA collected up to PKR 10 billion in terms of service tax collection annually. He added that this contributed 40% of the total tax collection in the province. He added that KPRA was aiming for a collection of PKR 18 billion in taxes by the end of the current fiscal year.
