Peshawar: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Highways Council (KPHC) sanctioned the construction of three new highways and two bypass roads, and the repair of 410-kilometre long roads, during a meeting presided by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.
According to a news source, PKR 1,360 million has been allocated to the construction of the new highways, while the roads will be mended at a cost of PKR 1,565 million. At the meeting, it was also decided that two more highways will be brought under the control of KPHC.
The chief minister inquired about the deadline for the cleanup operation against encroachments and urged that it be completed within six months.
The meeting attendees also reviewed the progress of decisions taken previously, devised plans for the construction and repair of the new highways and roads, and discussed pertinent issues such as revenue generation, the Swat motorway project, rehabilitation of flood affected areas, and the need for traffic warden police services on highways.
