Islamabad: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) tourism ministry is planning to offer grants to locals to develop the tourism sector in the province, according to a news report. The ministry aims to empower locals to set up their own guesthouses and various tourist facilities through these grants.

This will generate employment for the locals, and will also streamline the tourism industry in KP. The ministry made this decision at a meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture.

The provincial government aims to offer financial assistance to local villagers to develop eco-tourism destinations in Chitral and Hunza. The aim of this exercise is the promote sustainable tourism in Pakistan.
In the first phase, these grants would be provided for eco-tourism villages in three Kalash valleys in Chitral and Hunza. Later, this project would be extended to Nathia Gali, Naran, Kaghan, Thandian, and Galiyat etc. KP is carrying out various projects to promote sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.
