Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is resolved to preserve agricultural land across the province and has launched a crackdown on illegal construction activities reported on arable land, according to a news report published on March 15.

As per the statement issued on Sunday, under the said crackdown, the provincial government has sealed 65 illegal housing schemes, demolished six and issued notices to 235 schemes. Moreover, the FIRs have been lodged against 196 unauthorised housing schemes across the province.
In this regard, (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan presided over a meeting held to devise an effective strategy to prevent illegal construction activities on agricultural land. The meeting was appraised that necessary directives had been given to the district administrations and revenue departments to ban land mutation in illegal housing societies – while concerned departments were also instructed not to provide utility connections to such housing projects in the province.

Reportedly, the information of said housing projects has been updated on the official websites of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and concerned tehsil municipal administrations to inform the masses.
Moreover, the CM directed the authorities concerned to identify the responsible department quarters and launch action against them for their negligence in preventing the already established illegal housing schemes. The meeting was also briefed that draft of the rules to prevent construction activities on the agricultural land has been prepared – which will be tabled before the upcoming cabinet meeting for approval.
