Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Tourism Atif Khan has announced the provincial government’s decision to set up four integrated tourist zones in the province — aimed at promoting tourism in the region, a news source reported. As per the publication, this information came to light during a meeting between the tourism minister and Economic and Commercial Counselor General of China Dr. Wang Shenwa.

During this meeting, the minister mentioned that the provincial government would be spending PKR 1 billion to preserve and upgrade archeological sites in various tourist spots to promote religious tourism in KP. The two also discussed various development plans for the Rashakai Economic Zone being built under the auspices of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Minister Khan further discussed investment opportunities in various sectors including tourism, minerals, and hydropower projects. In response, Dr. Shenwa expressed a keen interest in projects related to the promotion of tourism in Pakistan and expressed an interest in benefiting from each other’s’ experience to promote tourism.

Additionally, Dr. Shenwa announced that Buddhist spiritual leaders and Chinese bloggers would be attending a conference in Pakistan, planned for March 2020, which is centered on the promotion of religious tourism in the country.
