Peshawar: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) plans on completing two hydropower projects – with a combined generation capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) – by December of this year (2020), according to a news source published on July 8.

The details of the hydropower projects, currently under development, in the province are as follows:
- 10.2MW hydropower project at Jabori in Mansehra
- 11.8MW hydropower project at Shangla
- 84MW hydropower project at Gorkan Mittaltan in Swat
- 40.8MW hydropower project at Koto in Lower Dir
- 69MW Lavi project in Chitral
- 300MW hydropower project in Balakot
- 10.56MW hydropower project at Chapri Charkhel in Kurram district

Out of these seven power generation projects, two will be completed by the end of this year and add 60 MW to the grid. As per the officials, some 84% of the development work on transmission lines has already been completed.
Moreover, the authorities are hiring a consultant for the Chapri Charkhel Hydro Project. The KP power division has also identified four corridors near Dir, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra and Kohistan for overcoming the shortfall in electricity production.
The Swat corridor has a total generation capacity of 1,100MW. Meanwhile, the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) has already completed a feasibility study for Swat-Mittaltan transmission line – with 84MW power generation capacity.
